This is S5 Ep 3
Our guest today, Lauren Fonvielle guides you on what is EFT tapping and how it really works to help you break through obstacles — physical, mental, or emotional.
It’s very common in Chinese medicine. And so it’s this idea that by tapping on the points, you’re helping to move , some of that stuck energy.
And I know, saying it in that way, people that aren’t familiar with that can be like, ‘okay, that sounds weird, I’m moving energy.’ But there is a lot of science behind it too. So in addition to that, as you’re tapping on these points, it’s actually sending a message to the amygdala in the brain.
And the amygdala is the part of the brain that controls fight or flight. And when you are someone that is dealing with chronic pain, chronic stress, overwhelm, that amygdala is constantly firing and when that’s happening, cortisol is being sent into the body, and cortisol is the stress hormone.” — Lauren Fonvielle [11:52]
Understand the Power of Your Feelings and Thoughts
With EFT, you can begin to gain perspective and insight into how your feelings and thoughts affect your overall state of mind. By learning how to be mindful of our feelings and thoughts, we can make more informed decisions about our behavior and the best way to manage challenging situations. In the process of using EFT, you will become more aware of emotions that arise from past experiences and begin to view them from a less intense place.
“Sometimes just saying that thing out loud can be really powerful in beginning to create a shift. Because when we think so many of the same thoughts each and every day, but a lot of the time those are just thoughts that we aren’t sharing with anybody.
— Lauren Fonvielle [24:17]
So when we take the time to pause and then really say that thing out loud. Something that can feel really, really true at the onset. You can start to create this, distance yourself from it, and then have a perspective shift and be like, ‘oh my goodness, that feels so silly now. I can’t even believe I thought that that was true.’”
Practice Mindfulness and Self-Care Techniques
Taking care of your own mental and physical well-being is one of the most important things you can do while recovering from narcissistic abuse. When you practice mindfulness and self-care techniques, such as EFT tapping, yoga, deep breathing exercises etc., it allows you to let go of the stress and tension built up in your body. This will provide you with more clarity to make better choices in managing difficult situations. It also helps to nurture a state of inner peace that lets you build resilience against manipulative behaviors.
“Don’t tell me that I can be grateful for this because this really sucks right now. “ — Raven Scott
“And it does. And that’s the beauty of the EFT tapping is it acknowledges that it sucks right now. It allows you to hold space for yourself and hold yourself with love, which I think is the key.” — Lauren Fonvielle [25:47]
“Chronic stress, and I think a lot of people can relate to that. They have symptoms in their body. Physical symptoms that are related to their stress. And for me it was my neck, my shoulders and my TMJ would really flare up.” — Lauren Fonvielle
Prepare Yourself for the Healing Process with EFT
“There was a study that was recently done on P T S D where they did tapping with a group of veterans and they tapped with everyone in this group individually for six weeks. And at the end of the six weeks, 90% of the veterans in that group had a reduction in their PTSD symptoms” — Lauren Fonvielle [27:26]
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is considered one of the most effective self-care practices for narcissistic abuse survivors. It helps to provide relief from anxiety, anger and pain by gently tapping on certain energy points of your body. By releasing built-up stress, it stimulates your natural healing process and enhances resilience by calming the mind and regulating emotions. Taking the time to practice EFT regularly will help you to become more grounded and aware of your thoughts, feelings, needs and desires on a deeper level.
[33:26] “You don’t really recognize how these things from our past are affecting us presently. And so that’s really common with this work. And , it can just unlock stuff that’s been locked down and ignored. And you’ve been running from it for a really long time.
Don’t wait until your body is screaming. And “come home to yourself.”
And EFT is one of the many tools that helps you to do that.
