Trauma is an emotional wound that leaves lasting scars on our bodies, minds, and spirits. It can affect anyone at any age, even children.

Learn how to recognize signs of trauma and what to do about it.
Traumatic events cause changes in brain chemistry that can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, avoidance, and increased arousal. These symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years after the event. If left untreated, PTSD can become debilitating.

Today I share a conversation with Charles Smith on the Empath and Narcissist Podcast. Listen by clicking below.

Recovering From PTSD – How To Heal Your Mind And Body

He witnessed his Father passing away while he held his hand at a young age. He experienced a near death experience training in the Army. And he endured post service homelessness and depression due to his PTSD.

The Effects of Trauma

A traumatic event can affect anyone at any age. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime. In fact, one out of every four people will experience some form of trauma during their lifetime.

PTSD stands for post traumatic stress disorder, which occurs when someone has been exposed to an event that causes severe trauma. The symptoms include flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and other emotional reactions.

Those who have endured a chronic time in an emotionally abusive relationship who suffered being in fight or flight mode will suffer from CPTSD which stands for complex post traumatic stress.

Types of Trauma

There are two main categories of trauma: acute and chronic. Acute trauma refers to an immediate threat to life or bodily integrity.

Patrice Pugh founder of Blessings Amid Chaos, experienced her own son holding her at gun point and was going to kill her, but she was able to call 911 in time before he did. Her trauma has catapulted her into helping others see they do have PTSD and how to heal it.

I was a guest on her Trauma to Triumph Summit. The goal for the summit is to learn how to heal your heart from trauma by using purposeful journaling, creativity, and mindfulness. And it was so powerful people are asking for more!

She is offering a rerun and running the replays during Dec. 17 & 18 for 48 hours only.

Chronic trauma occurs when there is no immediate threat to life or body integrity, such as living with a narcissist. You are in a constant stake of stress, panic, and never know when they will verbally assault you. And sometimes physically assault you.

Treating Trauma

If you’re dealing with trauma, you might feel numb, hopeless, angry, guilty, ashamed, depressed, or anxious. You might also feel disconnected from others, or unable to trust them. These feelings are normal responses to traumatic events. It’s important to understand that these reactions will pass as you heal.

PTSD Is A Real Thing.

If you think you might be suffering from PTSD, there are things you can do to help yourself recover.

First, seek professional help. There are many different kinds of therapy available, and some people find them helpful.

Second, try to avoid triggers. This includes places where you experienced the trauma, as well as situations that remind you of it.

Third, learn more about PTSD. Read books, watch documentaries, and talk with others who have suffered from it.

Fourth, take care of yourself. Eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and sleep enough.

Finally, make sure you have support systems in place.
